Biography
Wolfgang Schläger studied political science in Berlin and has been active in the external affairs arena in the European Commission for more than 20 years. In 1999, Wolfgang, a German national, began working in the cabinet of the first EU Commissioner for Enlargement, and was subsequently put in charge of overseeing the Commission’s international environmental relations with Russia with the Directorate General for Environment. He also spent several years in the EU Delegation in Mauritania, and was the Head of Cooperation with the EU Delegation in Turkey. Wolfgang managed the EU pre-accession funds for Albania, and led for six years the team of the Western Balkan Investment Framework, an EU Commission led blending facility in cooperation with International and National Financing Institutions. Since September 2021, he is heading the Brussels Office of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development.
