After 17 years of a brilliant sports career, he came to politics to fight corruption and injustice and defend ordinary citizens' rights and interests. Since 2010, he has been the leader of the "UDAR" party. In 2012 he was elected a Member of the Parliament of Ukraine. Vitali was one of the leaders of the Revolution of Dignity. He won the mayoral elections in Kyiv in 2014, 2015, and 2020. Since 2016, he has been the Chairman of the Association of Ukrainian Cities.
