Vadym Boichenko started his professional way at “Azovstal Iron and Steel Works” in Mariupol. He went through all the steps of the career ladder – from a worker, a driver, an instructor of engine crews to the director of personnel and social issues of Ilyich Iron and Steel Works of the Metinvest Group. In the local elections in 2015, the enterprise’s staff nominated him as a candidate for Mayor of Mariupol. Having received inspiring support from Mariupol residents, which is more than 74% of the votes, Vadym Boichenko was elected a Mayor of Mariupol. In 2020 he was elected for a second term. Under the charge of the new Mayor, the economy of Mariupol was revived; the development budget increased by 38 times and the city received a real Development Strategy focused on the interests of residents for the first time in the history of the city. During his leadership, Vadym Boichenko gave Mariupol a new impetus to development, brought it to the list of the most promising and the safest cities in the country and made it the leader in the Transparency International Ukraine rating. Mariupol was the first city in Ukraine to get the status of “The city of solidarity”, given by the UN. |
